Southern Piedmont Adoptive Families of America, Inc. (SPAFA) is an adoptive parent support group formed to provide information, education and emotional support, and encouragement to couples and individuals who desire to build or expand their families through adoption. SPAFA is one of the country’s largest and most active adoption support groups in the United States, with hundreds of active member families who are currently involved in the adoption process or have completed one or more adoptions. Our goal is to help prospective adoptive parents explore all the adoption options available to them and navigate through the adoption process so that they can find their path in their adoption journey. The decisions people make with regard to their adoption are very personal decisions. Only adoptive parents can make those decisions, but it often helps to hear the perspective of someone who has traveled that path before you. We are a network of adoptive parents dedicated to sharing our adoption stories and experiences in an effort to increase adoption awareness, act as an adoption resource, and provide ongoing compassionate and emotional support before, during and after the adoption process. Our activities also extend to post-placement issues, such as how and when to talk with your child about his or her adoption. SPAFA is not a child-placing agency. We do not endorse any adoption agency or advocate one type of adoption over another. This organization (or any adoptive parent support group) is just one of the tools for prospective adoptive parents to use in the adoption process. Adoptive parents must take the initiative when choosing their adoption path and when selecting their adoption agency. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the adoptive parents to be sure that the appropriate steps are taken in their adoption. In other words: DO YOUR HOMEWORK! |
