SPAFA's 13th Annual Adoption Expo 2009

The Adoption Expo offers couples or singles, who want to start a family, the opportunity talk with adoption professionals from across the country in one convenient trade show setting as part of National Adoption Month.

Our keynote speaker this year is Adam Pertman, Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute and author of Adoption Nation.  He will speak about "12 Things Everyone Needs to Know about Adoption".

This is a FREE event--bring a friend! 

Expo schedule:

 

8:30am to 4:00pm: Meet adoption professionals and agency representatives.
9:00am to 4:00pm: Educational sessions.
10:15am to 11:15am: Keynote speaker Adam Pertman, Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute

"An Overview of International Adoption"--Provides an overview of options, costs, country requirements, timelines, paperwork and other issues for international adoptions.

"Financing Your Adoption"--Reviews costs for domestic and international adoptions, tax credits and creative financing options.

"Transitioning from Infertility to Adoption"--Provides guidance for determining emotional readiness and realistic expectations about adoption.

"Adopting from Foster Care"--Provides an overview of foster care options, requirements, timelines, paperwork and costs.

"Your Child's Health"--Discusses of various health issues that may be encountered when adopting, either internationally and domestically.

"Adopting as a Single Parent"--Provides an overview of issues related to adopting as a single parent.

"Embryo Adoption"--Provides an overview of this relatively-new option for building your family.

SPAFA goals for the EXPO are to:

  •    Increase adoption awareness in the community
  • Educate attendees about available adoption options
  • Introduce our organization as a supportive local resource for prospective adoptive parents and families.
  • The SPAFA Adoption Expo is free and open to the public.
    Lodging : Available at the Holiday Inn Charlotte Center City
  • Directions:

  • From Interstate I-77 take exit 10B
  • Go East on Trade Street towards Uptown
  • Travel for approximately 1 mile to College Street
  • Turn left on College, go one block to 5th Street and turn right, then turn left into parking lot.
  • The parking at ITC Garage or 7th Street Station lot is available for EXPO guests.
